NORFOLK (NNS) -- Navy Warfare Development Command (NWDC) announced July 30, a significant improvement to the Navy Doctrine Library System (NDLS) on NIPRNET by shifting to common access card (CAC) login to access all of the site's features.
CAC registration and log in allows users to easily comment on both approved and draft publications, and recommend improvements. Comments go directly to the individuals responsible for maintaining the publication to ensure that they are considered for either immediate action or consideration during the next scheduled revision.
Other benefits include the ability to customize page layout, create personal bookshelves and receive e-mail notifications of changes to specific publications or segments of the Navy Warfare Library.
Personal "bookshelves" serve as personal repositories that provide quick and easy access to frequently referenced publications. Users can create multiple bookshelves to create and organize their personal libraries needed for shipboard qualification, professional development, and upcoming operations.
These bookshelves can also be shared with other users via e-mail. NWDC has compiled a number of mission area bookshelves based on requests from users in areas such as ballistic missile defense, Navy expeditionary combat, and humanitarian assistance/disaster relief.
With more than 750 Navy doctrine and tactics publications, tactical memoranda (TACMEMOs) and concepts of operation (CONOPs) available to users, NDLS is the single authoritative repository for all Navy doctrine and tactics related products.
NDLS can be accessed on the NIPRNET at https://ndls.nwdc.navy.mil and on the SIPRNET at http://ndls.nwdc.navy.smil.mil.
