CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (NNS) -- Naval Health Clinic Corpus Christi Customer Relations Department, Sept. 24, set the customer service bar another notch higher by placing barcodes on counter tops in waiting areas so that patients with smartphones can quickly and easily access the Interactive Customer Evaluation (ICE) System.

ICE is a web-based form that offers customers the flexibility to submit online comments rating their service experience at NHCCC. It also provides the customer with general clinic information such as location, hours of operation and phone numbers.

"It's pretty cool and it really works nicely," said Chief Hospital Corpsman Dawn Robinson, head, Customer Relations Department.

The new barcode resembles a purple colored complex maze confined in a small white box.

"All I had to do was download the barcode scanner in the Android freeware," said Robinson. "It's very easy as well as convenient. I just aim my telephone at the barcode and it automatically brings up the form for me to complete and submit."

Customers at NHCCC already have ICE System access options, including a kiosk with a desktop computer inside the waiting area of the Family Practice Clinic.

Several ICE Comment Drop Boxes are also located throughout the clinic, or customers can wait until they return home to visit the ICE website, http://ice.disa.mil at their own leisure.

"The drawback from using ICE at home, is that the clinic experience is no longer fresh in a customer's mind, and there are the normal distractions that eat into your time," said Robinson. "We believe that the barcode will work very well for customers on the go who own Smartphones. They can scan the barcode when they check-in or when they are waiting for their prescriptions, and then complete the form right there."

Customers must have Internet access and a barcode scanner application (free if able to download to phone) on their phone to use this new function.
