USS Emory S. Land Arrives in Bahrain

MINA SALMAN PIER, Bahrain (NNS) -- Submarine tender USS Emory S. Land (AS 39), arrived in Bahrain to engage the ship's repair mission in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility (AOR), Jan 23.

Land's repair capability will be tested as they provide emergent repair to various ships and their systems.

Land also showcased its versatility when guided missile cruiser USS Mobile Bay (CG 53) conducted a coordinated tended mooring alongside the tender.

"Our ship is as ever fighting fit and ready to execute its mission to provide repair and support services to deployed ships" said Capt. Glenn W. Pendrick, Land's commanding officer. "I'm confident that our crew will complete its mission."

Land and its crew will also be participating in various community service projects while in port, in an effort to strengthen the U.S. Navy's ties with Bahrain.

"We like to make a difference in the community in each port that we visit," said Lt. Aaron Roberton, command chaplain, "So we've lined up a few projects in between our repair mission that I think our Sailors will be proud to be a part of."

Land, homeported in Diego Garcia, is a forward deployed expeditionary submarine tender on an extended deployment conducting coordinated tending moorings and afloat maintenance in the U.S. 5th and 7th Fleet area of responsibility.
