NEWPORT, R.I. (NNS) -- Center for Service Support (CSS) on board Naval Station Newport, R.I., hosted a Targeted Job Duty Task Analysis (JDTA) workshop Jan. 29-31 for the Navy Standard Integrated Personnel Systems (NSIPS).

NSIPS is the single repository for personnel and pay data for all active duty and Reserve Sailors in the Navy, and offers Sailors around-the-clock access to their personnel information.

The JDTA workshop was conducted in response to the Naval Training Systems Plan (NTSP) validated by Chief of Naval Personnel, Vice Adm. Scott R. Van Buskirk. During the workshop, CSS training specialists gathered technical documentation from stakeholders and subject matter experts related to the associated jobs, duties and tasks performed by NSIPS Operators and NSIPS Supervisors. The data gathered will be used to create a baseline that addresses new work requirements triggered by the NTSP.

CSS Commanding Officer Capt. Dana Weiner said the work performed by his team will ensure seamless integration of the new requirements in to existing training.
"By design, much of what CSS does is behind the scenes," Weiner said. "But that doesn't make the work any less important. It is our responsibility to keep the content of our courses current and relevant, without interrupting instruction and student through put."

CSS participants included Deputy Director of Training Gary McGowan, Instructional Systems Specialists John Smith and David Ledoux, and Curriculum Manager Colette Recupero.

Other stakeholders and subject matter experts included representatives from a variety of commands, including the Bureau of Naval Personnel and Navy Pay and Personnel Support Center.

The workshop was accomplished "virtually," through use of the Defense Connect Online (DCO) system. This forum allowed maximum participation without incurring the time and travel costs associated with a traditional face-to-face event.

CSS and its seven learning sites provide Sailors with the knowledge and skills required to support the fleet's warfighting mission. Each year, the nearly 250 staff and faculty members of CSS deliver training to more than 10,000 personnel serving in the Navy's administration, logistics and media communities.
