NATONAL HARBOR, Md. (NNS) -- Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) spotlighted three supply enlisted ratings and provided information during speaking engagements at the Navy League's Sea Air Space Expo held April 8-10.
"Sea Air Space is an excellent opportunity to tell the supply and logistics story," said Rear Adm. Mark Heinrich, Commander, Naval Supply Systems Command.
NAVSUP's exhibit featured five daily cooking demonstrations by Navy culinary specialists, a chance to speak with logistics specialists and ship's serviceman personnel, and twice-daily education sessions with NAVSUP's registered corporate dietitian.
"The support that the supply community provides the fleet is unparalleled and indispensable," said Heinrich. "The Navy needs people, military and civilian members of the team, who know how to take a dollar and stretch it to ten. That's what NAVSUP does."
During a panel discussion with senior Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard leaders and representatives from industry, Heinrich indicated that the need to improve logistics both at installations and in the supply chain is more important now than ever, especially in these times of lean resources.
"Logistics is a team sport," said Heinrich. "Resiliency in the supply chain comes from collaboration and teamwork."
Capt. Kurt Wendelken, Assistant Commander for Enterprise Logistics Engineering at NAVSUP, explained that Navy Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) has been a journey during a talk in the Navy League Pavilion at the Expo.
"ERP gives us tremendous flexibility and a top down view of business processes," said Wendelken. "At the end of the day fleet readiness is what it's all about."
The Sea-Air-Space Exposition is the largest maritime symposium in the world, attracting nearly 10,000 attendees.
