Navy Region Japan, NAVFAC Far East Commands Win SECNAV Environmental Awards

YOKOSUKA, Japan (NNS) -- Commander Navy Region Japan (CNRJ) and Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Far East's supported commands won three of nine eligible categories in the 2012 Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV) Environmental Awards, announced by SECNAV message April 11.

Ship Repair Facility - Japan Regional Maintenance Center won the Environmental Quality, Industrial Installation award; Commander, Fleet Activities Sasebo won the Environmental Quality, Overseas Installation award and Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka won the Cultural Resources Management, Individual or Team award.

"This is a very strong showing for CNRJ and NAVFAC Far East's supported commands," said CNRJ Environmental Coordinator and NAVFAC Far East Environmental Director, Jeff Laitila. "These awards are even more significant in light of the financial and staffing challenges our commands have faced, and will continue to face in the future."

SRF-JRMC, CFAS and CFAY will now go on to compete in the 2012 Secretary of Defense Environmental Awards program.
