NAVFAC Warfare Center Selected for Golden Anchor Retention Award

NAVAL BASE VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. -- (NNS) -- The Naval Facilities Engineering and Expeditionary Warfare Center (NAVFAC EXWC) was awarded the command's first NAVFAC Golden Anchor for retention excellence during a ceremony April 17.

Rear Adm. Katherine Gregory, NAVFAC commander and chief of civil engineers, made the official announcement in a recently released message.

"The dedication and commitment that each of these commands demonstrated to the career development and the personal and professional need of our Sailors has been nothing short of exemplary," said Gregory. "Every member of these commands should be justifiably proud of these achievements."

NAVFAC EXWC saw the reenlistment of six military personnel in FY12 and received an assessment grade of 92 percent during their Immediate Superior-in-Command (ISIC) inspection - seven points over the eligibility cutoff grade of 85 percent. The command scored 100 percent in diverse areas of assessment, including: Command Advancement and Continuing Education; Career Development Program Management; and Perform to Serve (PTS).

"It is an honor for this new command to receive the Golden Anchor award," said NAVFAC EXWC Commanding Officer Capt. Brant D. Pickrell. "The award is a testament and recognition of the tireless efforts by our career counselors in support of the Navy's reenlistment and retention goals. More importantly, it signifies the commitment to retain our highly proficient, talented, and motivated sailors."

NAVFAC EXWC was one of seven NAVFAC commands chosen for their retention success.

The command was established in September 2012 to provide a single touch point responsible for all NAVFAC engineering and expeditionary specialty center functions, reducing overhead costs, and freeing up resources needed to sustain our nation's warfighters and improving mission support to supported commanders.
