PHILADELPHIA (NNS) -- NAVSUP Weapon Systems Support (WSS) Philadelphia prides itself on giving back to the community and did so on April 17 as eight service members converged on a local stretch of highway to cleaned it while participating in the Command's biennial Adopt-a-Highway project.
"It's great making such a difference in the area you work and live in," said Lt. Ronald Navalta, who is the the Fleet Readiness Center Officer at NAVSUP WSS Philadelphia and lives nearby. "It's a good feeling."
For an afternoon, the service members cleaned Route 1 in northeast Philadelphia, also known as Roosevelt Boulevard, from Summerdale Avenue two miles north to Oxford Circle. About 16 trash bags were filled, and the positive results were noticed quickly.
"The highway definitely looks a lot better, and getting out and cleaning the local area means a lot to us," said Lt. j.g. Thad Brill, a contracting specialist and intern at NAVSUP WSS.
