Nimitz Strike Group Enters 7th Fleet AOR

PACIFIC OCEAN - (NNS) -- The Nimitz Strike Group consisting of the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68) with embarked Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 11, Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 11 and Destroyer Squadron 23, along with guided-missile destroyers USS Momsen (DDG 92) and USS Preble (DDG 88) and guided-missile cruiser USS Princeton (CG 59) arrived in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility (AOR) May 3.

While in the 7th Fleet, the CSG will conduct exercises and port visits to enhance maritime partnerships and promote peace and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.

"We are eager for the opportunity to assist in expanding the relationship we have with our partners and allies during the upcoming weeks," said Rear Adm. Michael S. White, commander, CSG 11. "It is a mission we do not take lightly and the entire strike group will be putting forth every effort to make the most of this opportunity."

The U.S. 7th Fleet AOR spans 48 million square miles, from the International Date Line to the Western Indian Ocean.

The strike group will participate in various exercises and events highlighting the longstanding military partnership and enduring friendship between the United States and its allies.

CVW11 includes Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 154, VFA 147, VFA 146, Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 323, Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 142, Airborne Early Warning Squadron (VAW) 117, Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 6, Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 75, and Fleet Logistics Support Squadron (VRC) 30.
Nimitz left its homeport of Everett, Wash., March 30 for a training exercise and departed San Diego April 19 for a scheduled deployment to the 7th Fleet and U.S. Central Command area of responsibility. Nimitz' last deployment to 7th Fleet was in 2010.

Nimitz Strike Group follows in the wake of countless ships, aircraft and Sailors that deployed to the region over the past 70 years, continuing the Navy's ongoing commitment to maintain security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
