SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- Navy Recruiting District San Diego reached a notable milestone June 14 achieving more than 700 days without a driving-under-the-influence incident.

In addition to the required training, the command continuously emphasizes the importance of responsible drinking, having a plan, and looking out for shipmates. The command also utilizes the Arrive Alive program. Arrive Alive is intended to be used as the last resort and provides a safe means of transport for those service members who have driven their vehicles and are faced with the decision to drive while impaired.

With more than 270 enlisted and officer personnel, NRD San Diego's last DUI was July 1, 2011.

"This is a testament to our command looking out for each other and doing what is right when no one is looking. I am very proud," said NRD San Diego's Drug and Alcohol Program Advisor, Chief Navy Career Counselor Casey T. Spaulding.

To celebrate this milestone, Executive Officer, Cmdr. Todd Hofstedt granted a 72 hour special liberty in his appreciation for the crew's professional and personal performance.

"We take personal conduct very seriously and devote considerable time and effort to ensuring our personnel maintain professionalism in all aspects of their behavior," said Hofstedt.

"The exemplary personal conduct demonstrated allows us to reward them periodically with such things as a three-day weekend to maintain spirit de corps and positive peer pressure to perpetuate continued success."

NRD San Diego encompasses 52 recruiting stations and 210,000 square miles within a tri-state area which includes portions of California, Arizona and Nevada. Navy Recruiting Command's mission is to recruit the best men and women for America's Navy to accomplish today's missions and meet tomorrow's challenges.
