WASHINGTON (NNS) -- Nearly 400 Navy-funded registrations are now available for Sailors to attend the Sea Services Leadership Association (SSLA) 27th Annual Joint Women's Leadership Symposium (JWLS).
The symposium will be held on June 12-13 at the Norfolk Waterside Marriot Hotel in Norfolk, Va. The symposium will feature information sharing, training programs, workshops and discussions centered on the theme "Why Do You Serve?" and highlighting the importance of women's impact and role as military leaders. Various keynote speakers and breakout sessions are scheduled. Recipients of the Captain Joy Bright Hancock (officer) and Master Chief Anna Der-Vartanian (enlisted) Navy leadership awards will be recognized during the symposium awards luncheon on June 12.
Key leaders speaking at the symposium include Chief of Naval Personnel, Vice Adm. Bill Moran, Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe, Vice Adm. Michelle Howard, and Vice Adm. Nan DeRenzi.
All 382 available Navy-funded registrations will be coordinated through the Navy Office of Diversity and Inclusion - Women's Policy. To obtain a Navy funded registration, contact OSC Jessica Myers at (703) 604-5482 or Jessica.email@example.com. Registrants must be in the local Norfolk area. Uniform for Navy personnel will be service khaki for E7 and above and service uniform for E6 and below.
Individual commands are not authorized to pay for travel and expenses. All those wishing to attend must contact OSC Myers for their registration. Lunch will be provided on June 12 for those attending. All other meals will be purchased by the attendee.
SSLA is an organization that focuses on the mentorship and professional development of Women in the seafaring services. The 2014 Leadership Symposium provides an opportunity to engage with the world's largest gathering of service women from Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Army, and Air Force, providing a unique venue that allows dialogue and direct fleet feedback.
