NAVAL STATION ROTA, Spain (NNS) -- Seabees from Commander, Task Group (CTG) 68.2, Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 11, conducted Emergency Control Center (ECC) drills Feb. 12.

The training was conducted to prepare Seabees in the event they are called upon to operate an ECC and assist with the timely and organized departure of U.S. citizens when Americans and diplomatic personnel are living, working, or traveling abroad in unstable regions of the world.

"Training with FAST Company (the Marine Corps Fleet Anti-Terrorism Security Team) was intended to familiarize NMCB-11 personnel with ECC equipment and procedures," said Lt. Benjamin Bernhardt, officer in charge of the ECC drill. "CTG 68.2/NMCB 11 has two ECC teams capable of operating at independent geographic locations."

This drill was part of CTG 68.2/NMCB 11's regular scheduled training cycle.

"At first we were just learning the basics and then we started running through all the extremes that could happen during various scenarios," said Construction Electrician Constructionman Dara Wells, from Las Vegas. "I feel confident that if the situation called, I would be able to perform well."

CTG 68.2/NMCB 11 is a Seabee battalion that specializes in contingency construction, disaster response, and humanitarian assistance. The battalion's homeport is in Gulfport, Mississippi.

The Naval Construction Force is a vital component of the U.S. Maritime Strategy. It offers deployable battalions capable of providing contingency construction, disaster preparation and recovery support, humanitarian assistance, and combat operations support.
