Aviation Ordnanceman 2nd Class Stanford Stenson of Custard, S.D., carts a pair of bombs across the flight deck of nuclear powered aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73) April 11, 1996.  The bombs were being loaded onto an F/A-18C "Hornet" that was preparing to launch for a training run over a bombing range in Kuwait.
The George Washington is presently deployed to the Arabian Gulf in support of Operation Southern Watch.  Currently in the middle of a scheduled six-month deployment, the "Spirit of Freedom" has also supported Operation Decisive Endeavor in the Adriatic Sea. Churchill (DDG 81)(Sep. 5, 2001) -- Gunner's Mate 2nd Class James Jensen mans a 50-caliber machine gun aboard the Churchill to deter terrorists, played by Royal Navy sailors, during Flag Officer Sea Training (FOST). The Norfolk, Va., based destroyer is the first American vessel to attend FOST, a tailored and integrated training program facilitated by the Royal Navy similar to the U.S. Navy's interdeployment training.
