STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (Nov. 9, 2012) Logistics Specialist Seaman Matthew McDonald hands a wooden beam to Information Systems Technician 3rd Class James Longeway while cleaning up a street that was decimated by Hurricane Sandy. Sailors and Marines assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1) were clearing sidewalks and streets in Staten Island. Wasp, the amphibious transport dock USS San Antonio (LPD 17), and the dock landing ship USS Carter Hill (LSD 50) are positioned in New York Harbor to provide relief support to areas affected by Hurricane Sandy.
