STRAIT OF HORMUZ (March 30, 2012) The amphibious assault ship USS Peleliu (LHA 5) transits the Strait of Hormuz after routine operations in the Arabian Gulf. Peleliu is the flagship for the Peleliu Amphibious Ready Group and, with embarked elements of the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (15th MEU), is deployed in support of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility.
