SINGAPORE (April 18, 3013) Cmdr. Timothy Wilke, commanding officer of the littoral combat ship USS Freedom (LCS 1), holds a press conference on the ship's flight deck. Freedom's arrival in Singapore highlights the next phase of an an eight-month deployment to Southeast Asia. The littoral combat ship platforms are designed to employ modular mission packages that can be configured for surface warfare, mine countermeasures, or anti-submarine warfare.
