ATLANTIC OCEAN (Sept. 13, 2015) Fire Controlman 3rd Class Jacob Smith, left, from Antioch, Tenn., and Fire Controlman 1st Class David Simangern, from Mesa, Ariz., both assigned to the guided-missile destroyer USS Carney (DDG 64), conduct preventive maintenance on the Phalanx close-in weapons system (CIWS) barrels. Carney is the fourth Arleigh Burke-class destroyer to be forward deployed to Rota, Spain to serve as part of the President's European Phased Adaptive Approach to ballistic missile defense in Europe.
