Newport News, Va. (March 19, 2006) - Petty Officer 3rd Class Chris Jones places a drawer from a personal storage locker on top of a pile of lockers and berthing racks being prepared for removal aboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70). Jones is assigned to Vinsons habitation team, responsible for more than 100 berthing compartments undergoing various levels of repairs or overhaul. The Carl Vinson is currently undergoing its scheduled refueling complex overhaul (RCOH) at Northrop Grumman Newport News shipyard. The RCOH is an extensive yard period all Nimitz-class aircraft carriers go through near the mid-point of their 50-year life cycle. During RCOH Carl Vinsons nuclear fuel will be replenished and the ships services and infrastructure will be upgraded for the next 25 years service.
