Newport News, Va. (Dec. 15, 2006) - Airman Todd Shelby, assigned to the painting and preservation team aboard USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), sands old paint off the carrier's superstructure. Painting and preservation is part of daily life for a carrier undergoing a Refueling Complex Overhaul (RCOH). Vinson is currently undergoing its scheduled RCOH at Northrop Grumman Newport News shipyard. The RCOH is an extensive yard period that all Nimitz-class aircraft carriers go through near the mid-point of their 50-year life cycle.
