NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (March 6, 2007) - USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) Commanding Officer, Capt. Ted Carter, speaks to a crowd attending the ship's mast stepping ceremony held on the flight deck of the ship. The stepping of the ship's mast is a Navy tradition in which a coin is placed at the base of a ship's mast to bring good luck and safe voyages for a vessel.
