SEKONDI, Ghana (March 15, 2010) Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Darren Maxwell, left, from Staten Island, N.Y., and Culinary Specialist 2nd Class Jacqueline Mitchell, from Crystal Springs, Miss., both assigned to the Whidbey Island-class amphibious dock landing ship USS Gunston Hall (LSD 44), watch as a young deaf Ghanaian girl signs at the Sekondi School for the Deaf during a three-day community outreach project. Gunston Hall is on a scheduled deployment in West Africa in support of Africa Partnership Station (APS) West, an international initiative developed by Naval Forces Europe and Naval Forces Africa, which aims to improve maritime safety and security on the continent of Africa.
