ATLANTIC OCEAN (Nov
v. 15, 2017) - U.S. Marine Corps Capt. Daniel Dial, left, an unmanned aircraft system officer with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 162 (REIN), 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), speaks with Navy Rear Admiral Kenneth Whitesell, the commander of Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 4, about the RQ-21 Blackjack during a visit aboard the amphibious transport dock ship USS New York (LPD 21). A panel session on the Fleet's integration and interoperability of unmanned systems, such as the Blackjack, took place during a Surface Warfare Innovation Workshop sponsored by NSWCDD and the Navy War College at the Navy's newest Innovation Lab in October. Panel members and technologists brainstormed to innovate for the future Navy in terms of interoperability, mission planning, enhanced weapons, and inexpensive deployed unmanned systems.
