Looking for an internship over the summer to gain college credit, public relations and media experience, and work with the country's military leaders?
The U.S. Navy Office of the Chief of Information (CHINFO) is seeking college students interested in exploring the exciting and challenging world of military public affairs.
Current sophomore or junior-year undergraduates or graduate students enrolled in journalism, communication, or similar majors in accredited colleges and universities. Internships are 10-12 weeks and usually occur in-line with your school's summer break. Internships are unpaid.
Navy public affairs tells the Navy's story. These professionals are the best communicators in the Department of Defense. Public Affairs Officers are trusted communications counsel to C-suite level equivalent leaders. They develop and lead communication campaigns, communicate directly with the media, stakeholders, and appropriately segmented publics, and guide the voice of the Navy. Enslisted personnel (Mass Communication Specialists) produce written and multimedia content, and civilian public affairs specialists cover the gamut of Navy PA.
Navy Public Affairs student interns serve an important role in telling the Navy's story. You will assist in researching, writing, and releasing information, responding to press and public inquiries, escorting media, arranging events, and content creation online for social media and in print. You will also learn about post-graduate career opportunities with the Navy, meet potential career mentors, and be in the room when national-level decisions are being made.
The application package is due to PAinternship@us.navy.mil by March 10 for the subsequent summer. Applications will be reviewed in March, interviews conducted in April, and offers are made in late April or early May of each year. Those accepting the internship will start their positions in late May or early June.
