I’m excited to announce that a second Naval Horizons contest is now open for High School students!

Naval Horizons is an essay contest that introduces students to cutting-edge STEM topics that impact the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. This contest invites students to learn about Naval STEM challenges and Department of the Navy (DON) scientists and engineers through a video series. The contest challenges students to picture themselves in a STEM career by designing the Navy and Marine Corps of the future.

We decided to host a second contest for high school students, building on the success of the first Naval Horizons contest for college students, which closed on Jan. 15, 2021.

In the first contest, we awarded cash prizes to 613 students who took on the challenge. In addition, 362 of those students provided a statement of interest to meet with a DON STEM mentor virtually. Our Naval Horizons videos had over 12,000 views! The feedback we received from the students has been positive, with many students saying they have a better awareness of real-world naval science and technology challenges after participating. These were the results that we hoped to see.

We hope to continue to expand awareness of students, parents and educators about naval science and technology challenges through this contest.

Please check out the website: https://navalhorizons.us and share this opportunity with all!
