Lessons Learned From the Show

Sesame Street teaches children about living in a military family

Sesame Street and the USO have teamed up to bring military families a fun interactive way to address the challenges of having a parent in the military.

Sesame Street favorites like Elmo and Cookie Monster perform shows on bases around the country and worldwide for kids and their families. The shows tackle topics like moving and resiliency in a way that children can engage and learn. Additionally, the show creates a dialogue between children and their parents about challenges and how to overcome them.

Chief Petty Officer Jason Lenn and his wife Trish brought their three children to see the performance at Fort George G. Meade, where he's stationed. Lenn said his kids, ages seven, six and three, were too young to remember the last time he deployed. He knows that with a Permanent Change of Station in his family's immediate future, Sesame Street will help his kids get comfortable with the changes that will start to happen around them.
