PORTSMOUTH, Va. April 22, 2020

Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) begins enhanced screening procedures for entering the installation, with personnel taking temperatures and asking questions to ensure employees are not exhibiting any symptoms or at increased risk for having COVID-19. Now in its second full week, refinements continue to be made to the enhanced screening process, both to improve the entry process for employees and to assist supervisors in the event personnel are denied access. In addition to NNSY implementing the self-screening website created by its Nuclear Corporate Training Initiatives Division (Code 2360), the Duty Office has been sending out information via AtHoc, providing employees real-time updates on their phones for traffic status at all gates, helping them adjust their plans for entry accordingly. Members of the Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR) Program continued to observe the yearly tradition of placing small flags along the walkway in front of NNSY's Norman Sisisky Management and Engineering Building, each flag with handwritten message to victims of sexual assault showing support. Due to Coronavirus-19 (COVID-19), many planned events related to Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month(SAAPM) were unfortunately cancelled to minimize any potential spread and ensure the safety of those who would be in attendance. However, that hasn't stopped NNSY from recognizing the significance of SAAPM at the shipyard. (U.S. Navy photo courtesy of Norfolk Naval Shipyard by Daniel DeAngelis/Released)
