Aviation Electrician's Mate 3rd Class Dakota Flint, assigned to Helicopter Maritime Squadron (HSM) 35 embarked aboard the littoral combat ship USS Fort Worth (LCS 3), performs a pre-flight check on an MQ-8B Fire Scout unmanned helicopter aboard the littoral combat ship USS Freedom (LCS 1) during an Independent Deployer Certification Exercise (IDCERTEX). IDCERTEX, led by Commander, U.S. 3rd Fleet (C3F) and executed by Commander, Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 15, is being conducted Feb. 9-20 off the Coast of Southern California and Hawaii. The exercise includes Crew 102, embarked aboard Freedom, the guided-missile destroyers USS Lake Champlain (CG 57), USS Chosin (CG 65) and the guided-missile destroyers USS Preble (DDG 88) and USS Chafee (DDG 90). IDCERTEX will serve as CSG 15's final opportunity to evaluate and certify Preble, Chafee and Crew 102 across multiple warfare areas prior to regularly scheduled deployments.   • The aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) approaches the fast combat support ship USNS Arctic (T-AOE 8) for a replenishment-at-sea. The Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group is deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points. With Abraham Lincoln as the flagship, deployed strike group assets include staffs, ships and aircraft of Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 12, Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 2, the guided-missile cruiser USS Leyte Gulf (CG 55) and Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 7.   • Chief Hospital Corpsman Richard Utley is pinned by his wife and his mother during the fiscal year 2020 chief petty officer (CPO) pinning ceremony aboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68). Twenty-five Sailors were pinned to CPO during the ceremony. Nimitz is currently in port preparing for future operations.
