  • Naval Supply Systems Command, Fleet Logistics Center Sigonella's site in Rota, Spain, supported an intermodal evolution resulting in $2.5 million dollars in government savings. The operation enabled the U.S. Army 101st Combat Aviation Brigade (CAB) to deploy to Afghanistan and replace the 3rd CAB. The seamless logistics support facilitated a quick and efficient theater loadout, allowing the two brigades to conduct their corresponding missions in Afghanistan. The White House ordered the urgent staging and delivery of the medical, water sanitation and hygiene supplies following a 7.1 magnitude earthquake that rocked the Mexican nation Sept. 19.   • A visit, board, search, and seizure (VBSS) team from the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Mitscher (DDG 57) approaches the Descubierta-class corvette ENS El Suez (F-946) for a VBSS training scenario during a passing exercise. Mitscher, homeported at Naval Station Norfolk, is deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
