  • Air Force Gen. Terrence O'Shaughnessy, commander of U.S. Northern Command, conducts an aerial assessment of the Hurricane Florence-affected region in an MV-22 Osprey, assigned to the "Black Nights" of Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 264. VMM-264 is embarked aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD 3) with elements of the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU). Under the direction of U.S. Northern Command, Kearsarge, the amphibious transport dock ship USS Arlington (LPD 24), and embarked elements of the 22nd MEU were deployed ahead of the hurricane and followed the storm in order to provide Defense Support of Civil Authorities.
