For his final assignment, Rear Adm. (ret) Mike Lyden served as Commander, Naval Supply Systems Command and 45th Chief of Supply Corps from 2008 to July 2011.
Lyden received a bachelor’s degree in Management Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and was commissioned through Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps in 1978. He also received a master’s in business administration from Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration, and is a graduate of the Advanced Management Program at the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University.
Lyden’s afloat tours include supply officer, USS Valdez (FF 1096); stock control officer, USNS Sirius (T-AFS 8); and supply officer, USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70).
His shore and staff assignments include Navy Supply Corps School, Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Naval Aviation Supply office, Naval Supply Systems Command, and Office of Chief of Naval Operations.
His extensive joint experience includes director, Logistics and Security Assistance, Headquarters United States European Command, Stuttgart, Germany; commander, Defense Supply Center Richmond, Va., and as executive officer to the director, Defense Logistics Agency.
Lyden’s personal awards include Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and a number of unit and campaign awards. He is a qualified Naval Aviation Supply Officer and Surface Warfare Supply Corps Officer, and is a member of the Navy Acquisition Professional Community.
