SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- Information Warfare Training Command (IWTC) San Diego is now equipped with the latest version of Distributed Common Ground System - Navy (DCGS-N), Increment 1, Block 2.

Installation began in February and was completed, March 29.

DCGS-N provides the Navy's primary intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and targeting support capability, and this system upgrade brings IWTC San Diego up to fleet standards. Specifically, this installation will benefit students from carrier strike groups and amphibious readiness groups who attend information warfare team trainers (IWTT).

"Our DCGS-N upgrade was so necessary and well-received!" said Chief Intelligence Specialist Beth McNeill, an instructor at IWTC San Diego. "We are finally on par with the systems capability of all big deck ships - we are training the way we fight. The IWTC San Diego IWTT instructor team is ecstatic for our new DCGS-N!"

The previous version of DCGS-N installed at IWTC San Diego included only 24 workstations. The current configuration boasts 111, and each student enrolled in a team trainer now has access to a DCGS-N workstation, while instructors also now have workstations at their desks.

"The DCGS-N upgrade gives instructors greater flexibility in training information warfare teams from the waterfront," said Intelligence Specialist 1st Class Justin Meisner. "The additional workstations will allow greater collaboration between team members."

IWTC San Diego, as part of the Center for Information Warfare Training, provides a continuum of training to Navy and joint service personnel that prepares them to conduct information warfare across the full spectrum of military operations.
