NORFOLK, Virginia (NNS) -- The Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Fleet Logistics Center (FLC) Norfolk Contracting Department been supporting the fleet’s COVID-19 related procurement needs over the last few weeks, while balancing the pandemic’s impacts on thousands of existing contracts as well.
According to Jordan Dorsey, NAVSUP FLC Norfolk deputy contracting department head, the COVID-19 related procurements have included hotel lodging for USNS Comfort (T-AH 20) personnel in New York, the purchase of more than 250 handwashing stations for bases in the Commander, Navy Region Mid-Atlantic area of responsibility and a large order cloth face coverings on behalf of United States Fleet Forces Command that is beginning to get delivered this week.
“I’m incredibly proud of the team’s responsiveness to these often short-fused requests and their willingness to work extra hours,” Dorsey said. “It truly shows their dedication to the warfighter.”
Dorsey added that he is impressed at the department’s dedication to the several thousand current contracts at the same time they’re working the unique COVID-19 related ones in a fast-paced environment.
“Every one of those contracts is unique and could be impacted differently by the pandemic,” he explained. “Every question requires the team to look at them individually and provide an answer on a case-by-case basis. We have been working hand-in-hand with the NAVSUP FLC Norfolk Legal Department, whose support has been nothing short of tremendous.”
The majority of the approximately 250 members of the contract team are performing their jobs on full-time telework, which helps to maintain physical distancing to slow down the spread of COVID-19. The team uses daily musters and virtual meetings to help everyone keep track.
“The team’s responsiveness and accountability has been nothing short of amazing,” said Dorsey. “We have received direct feedback from multiple customers on how impressed they are with the team’s efforts.”
