Miss Virginia Visits State's Namesake Submarine

GROTON, Conn. (NNS) -- Miss Virginia 2007 visited her Commonwealth's namesake submarine June 3 at her homeport at Naval Submarine Base New London.

Hannah Kiefer toured USS Virginia (SSN 774) conducted an autograph session for the crew.

"It was an honor to be able to visit the boat of the Commonwealth that we both represent," said Kiefer. "I was amazed by the technology on board and the amount of equipment that they can fit into such a small space."

According to Lt. Cmdr. Bryan Sittlow, USS Virginia executive officer, the crew was honored to have Keifer visit submarine.

"Our boat and crew have been working extremely hard over the past several months," said Sittlow, USS Virginia executive officer. "This was a great break and morale boost for the crew."

Kiefer's visit to USS Virginia marked a couple of firsts. This was her first time on board a submarine and this was the first time a Miss Virginia has visited the boat.

"It was an amazing experience," said Kiefer. "I highly recommend that future Miss Virginias tour the boat."
