Navy Identifies Pilot Killed in Crash

NORFOLK (NNS) -- The Navy has released the identity of the pilot killed when his single seat F/A-18C Hornet aircraft crashed near NAS Fallon on Friday.

Lieutenant Jeremy S. Wise, 28, of Virginia Beach, Va. died following a collision between his aircraft and an F-5 Tiger aircraft during a routine training mission approximately 50 miles east of Naval Air Station Fallon. Wise, a pilot, was assigned to the "Valions" of Strike Fighter Squadron 15 (VFA-15) based at NAS Oceana in Virginia Beach. He had been in the Navy for four years and a member of the Valions for 10 months.

The cause of the mishap is under investigation.

The F-5 Tiger is a two seat aircraft assigned to the "Saints" of Fighter Squadron Composite 13 (VFC-13) based at NAS Fallon. Both crewmen ejected safely and were picked up by a search and rescue helicopter.
