JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (NNS) -- A Navy logistics command and an Air Force technology school have created a free online invitation service for military and government use.
Fleet and Industrial Supply Center (FISC) Jacksonville, a component of the Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) under Commander, Fleet and Industrial Supply Centers (COMFISCS), has partnered with the U.S. Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) to offer e-invitations, an electronic Web application.
This cost-wise and 'green' method for sending official announcements and invitations for retirements, change of command ceremonies and other events was the result of a FISC Jacksonville-sponsored Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) project to reduce the mailing costs for these type of documents by 10 percent.
The application at https://einvitations.afit.edu is convenient, easy to use, and, best of all, free. This service saves the cost of cards, envelopes, printing, and postage and handling fees, and is available to all members of the U. S. military or government who have a valid .mil, .gov, or usaffa.edu e-mail address.
Training to use e-invitations is available via a step-by-step tutorial video, and information found in the Frequently Asked Questions and Tips and Tricks sections of the Web site.
For customer convenience, an additional link to the site is available on the FISC Jacksonville Mail Center page of the NAVSUP Web site at https://www.navsup.navy.mil/navsup/ourteam/comfiscs/fiscj/mail_center.
"Sometimes simple solutions are overlooked, but [the CPI] team quickly grasped the notion that today's technology may already have the solution you need," said FISC Jacksonville CPI Black Belt Pauline Chriscoe. "The Lean Six Sigma methodology brought them to that reality with the supporting facts they needed to make the change."
For trouble-shooting questions and concerns, e-invitation users can contract the Web administrator at email@example.com.
