WASHINGTON (NNS) -- The deputy director of small business for Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Washington, was awarded the 2010 Distinguished Service Award during the sixth annual National Veteran's Small Business Conference in Las Vegas July 21.

Service Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB)and Veteran-Owned Small Business Advocate Group recognized Su Jones for her superior efforts in identifying federal contracting opportunities and supporting Department of the Navy goals in the Veteran and Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Businesses programs.

"I am honored to received [the award]," said Jones. "To be recognized by the SDVOSB and VOSB groups for efforts in supporting their businesses has a special meaning to me as I am a daughter of a World War II veteran who recently passed away."

Jones was nominated by Clauss Construction, a small business. As with many other small businesses she interacts with, she took Clauss' information and added it to a distribution list.

"It appears to be an effective tool based on the feedback I continue to received from small business," said Jones.

She has worked for the federal government for 22 years, with the past nine years in acquisition. Jones is a graduated of the Department of the Navy Acquisition Intern Program. She is a level III certified contracting professional in the Defense Acquisition Corps.

"I never forget where I came from," she said. "I put myself in their place and look at things from their perspective. Then I do my best to provide what is needed."
