MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. (NNS) -- The master chief petty officer of the Navy (MCPON) toured Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton (NHCP) Nov. 24 while visiting various commands on the west coast.

During his visit, MCPON (SS/SW) Rick D. West met Sailors and Marines and toured the hospital's Physical Therapy and Family Medicine departments.

"I was honored to have the opportunity to brief the MCPON on our mission," said Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class Ayorinde Thorpe, NHCP physical therapy technician. "I was amazed at how personable and down to earth he was. He was very interested in the Sailors here."

The MCPON is the Navy's senior enlisted member and serves as the advisor to the chief of naval operations and chief of naval personnel in matters concerning enlisted personnel and their families. West became the Navy's 12th MCPON Dec. 13, 2008.
