SAN DIEGO, Calif. (NNS) -- USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) opened a new coffee shop aboard the ship, Jan. 31.

The Hellcat Cafe, located on the forward mess decks, will be operated by the ship's Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Division and will serve Starbucks brand coffee, with all profits going back to MWR services for the crew.

"The cafe was opened to boost morale around the ship," said Kendra Smith, USS Ronald Reagan Fun Boss. "All the profits go to the ship. All the money raised from serving Starbucks coffee goes to MWR and provides Sailors discount tour tickets, prizes and activities."

The concept of Hellcat Cafe began in December, to improve the morale of Reagan Sailors during upcoming deployments.

"We want to provide something new for the Sailors this time around," said Smith. "It's what they want and what they deserve."

Starbucks provided the training, equipment and supplies, but receives none of the profits from the beverages sold, said Smith.

The cafe has only been open for a day, but Sailors are already excited about having something different during their upcoming deployment.

Master Chief Fire Controlman John Schwanke was one of the first people to get a cup of coffee after the grand opening.

"It's delicious, just like going out on the town," Schwanke said. "It is the real thing."
