VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (NNS) -- Sailors from installations and commands throughout Hampton Roads, Va., helped with building an entire home in Virginia Beach during the course of one week for the television show, Extreme Home Makeover, Jan. 30 through Feb. 5.

Throughout the week Sailors supported the approximately 106-hour construction project that relied entirely on volunteers and involved fllooring installation, plumbing, moving supplies, and maintaining a clean work site.

Some came in groups and treated the experience as a community relations project, while others worked around their regular schedule.

"I'm doing everything outside of work," said Hull Technician 3rd Class Kristen Pacheco. "For me it's just an opportunity to do my part."

Pacheco said about 40 Sailors from USS Wasp (LHD 1)lent helped out during the week-long project.

"The draw here is networking in the community," said Chief Hospital Corpsman (SW/FMF/NAC) Scott LaFountaine. "And an opportunity to help one of the families in the area."
