JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (NNS) -- The Naval Air Station Jacksonville (NAS Jax) Officers' Club officially wrapped up its 2010 Northeast Florida/Southeast Georgia Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) during a ceremony held aboard the facility, Feb. 1.
This year's campaign generated $2,235,688 in contributions that will be distributed among non-profit organizations approved by a special committee to become recipients. This is the 11th consecutive year the drive has topped $2 million.
"We really have a great community here of military and civilian employees," said Commander, Navy Region Southeast Rear Adm. Tim Alexander. "To all of you here - thank you for what you've done for the Combined Federal Campaign and what you do each and every day. Next year will be the 50th anniversary of CFC, and we are looking forward to another successful campaign."
"It is great to be part of the CFC team and to acknowledge the outstanding efforts of all of you who have made this year's campaign so successful," said NAS Jax Commanding Officer Capt. Jeffrey Maclay. "Not only do the contributions of this campaign better lives in our local community, but around the nation and world. It will improve the quality of life and provide brighter futures for many in need."
Each year, government employees come together to support the CFC by raising funds for agencies and charities.
"To establish our goal each year, we look at the previous figures, economy, military and federal employees statistics," said CFC Regional Director John Smith. "After achieving last year's goal, we decided that this campaign's goal needed to be more challenging. So it was set at $2.2 million. This is $140,000 more than in previous years. We had great leadership, a challenging goal, outstanding training for our loaned executives and great incentives; all of which contributed to another great campaign."
Smith then announced the awardees as Maclay presented the certificates and plaques.
The NAS Jax team was lauded for raising $706,077 and achieving 104 percent of their goal. For their achievements, the team was selected as the Loaned Executives of the Year for the Region.
"This is the highest amount NAS Jax has ever raised," said Smith. "This team really gets out there, helps everyone and [is] very proactive by contacting all their commands. They make sure everyone knows how important this fund drive is."
Although the campaign proved to be an overall success, some wondered how the economic recession would affect the overall outcome.
"The 2010 Combined Federal Campaign was an outstanding success," said NAS Jax CFC Chairperson Lt. Cameron Norris, NAS Jax Air Operations Department. "Even during very hard economic times, people continue to give. NAS Jax and our 79 tenant commands raised more than $706,000, far beyond our goal."
Norris said the campaign would not have been possible without the help of the volunteers.
The CFC is held from Sept. 1 through Dec. 15, each year. The campaign supports more than 2,400 national and international charities, and approximately 40,000 local charities that meet eligibility criteria.
