Navy Football Team Earns Academic, Athletic Honors

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (NNS) -- Seventeen football players and seven support personnel at the U.S. Naval Academy were named to the Superintendent, Academic Dean or Commandant's List for the spring semester Aug. 30.

Student coach Travis Keating (3.56 GPA in Economics); slot back Aaron Santiago (3.73 GPA in Systems Engineering); student video assistant Cassidy Westsantos (4.0 GPA in Systems Engineering); linebacker Keegan Wetzel (4.0 GPA in Honors Systems Engineering) and punter Kyle Delahooke (3.40 GPA in Political Science) all made the Superintendent's List.

To qualify for the Superintendent's List, midshipmen must earn a semester grade point average of 3.4 or higher with no grade of D, F or Incomplete in any course. They must get an A in conduct; an A in military performance and an A or B in Physical Education and the Physical Readiness Test.

Snapper Brian Ackerman (3.93 GPA in Economics); manager Nick Baileys (3.44 GPA in Systems Engineering); guard John Dowd (3.82 GPA in Mechanical Engineering); safety Jerad Fehr (3.65 GPA in Oceanography); linebacker John Michael Nurthen (3.50 GPA in Systems Engineering); offensive lineman Kahikolu Pescaia (3.41 GPA in Systems Engineering); kicker Stephen Picchini (3.65 GPA in Systems Engineering); kicker Jon Teague (3.83 GPA in Oceanography); offensive tackle Jeff Battipaglia (3.47 GPA in Economics) and kicker Joe Buckley (3.73 GPA in Honors Economics) were named to the Dean's List.

To qualify for the Dean's List, midshipmen must earn a semester grade point average of 3.4 or higher with no grade of D, F or I in any course; a B in conduct; a B in military performance and a C or better in Physical Education and in the Physical Readiness Test.

Student trainer Lauren Basl (3.0 GPA in Political Science); wide receiver Hal Bowron (2.94 GPA in General Engineering); student video assistant Jose Cordova (3.39 GPA in Electrical Engineering); slot back Gee Gee Greene (3.31 GPA in Political Science); manager Daniel Holliday (3.26 GPA in English); nose guard Jared Marks (3.06 GPA in General Science); manager Holden Shalov (3.37 GPA in Aerospace Engineering); slot back JJ Cosh (3.38 GPA in Economics) and defensive back Jason Wright (3.38 GPA in Oceanography) were named to the Commandant's List.

To qualify for the Commandant's List, midshipmen must earn a semester grade point average of 2.9 or higher; an A in conduct; an A or B in aptitude; an A or B in PE and an A or B in the PRT.

Linebacker Jake Juriga (4.0 GPA in Honors Systems Engineering) and fullback Delvin Diggs (3.73 GPA in Oceanography) would have qualified but suffered football-related injuries that kept them out of physical education.
