MILLINGTON, Tenn. (NNS) -- Navy Personnel Command (NPC) established a transition assistance information page on their website providing Sailors and leadership a central location to find transition assistance information and resources, officials said Nov. 9.

"Transitioning Sailors need to work with a command career counselor or transition counselor to ensure they fully understand their eligibility and benefits, but, this Web page provides Sailors a place to easily locate and learn more about opportunities available to them," said Senior Chief Navy Counselor (AW) Kelly Strickland, force career counselor, NPC. "One of the main reasons Sailors don't take advantage of programs available to them is lack of knowledge."

The page features links to Shipmates to Workmates, Credentialing Opportunities On-Line, TurboTAP and Selected Reserve opportunities, which are programs that can assist transitioning Sailors.

The page also features links to the latest transition news that can help Sailors learn about new and upcoming services, benefits and upcoming initiatives.

Sailors and commands can also find a link to The Transition Assistance Handbook which explains key transition benefits for all transitioning Sailors. Topics covered in the handbook include relocation assistance, education benefits, Department of Veterans Affairs health care and life insurance, rules for temporary duty for job hunting and relocation, Reserve affiliation opportunities, and Transition Assistance Program workshops.

The page also features a link to the pre-separation counseling checklist guide, which provides Sailors step-by-step directions for completing their DD2648 for active duty and DD2648-1 for Reserves.

"The pre-separation counseling checklist is a mandatory checklist that guides Sailors through every step of their transition," said Strickland.
