TORRANCE, Calif. (NNS) -- Navy Recruiting District Los Angeles hosted their Annual Training Symposium and Banquet Jan. 11-12 in Torrance, Calif.

The training allowed Sailors, staff and civilians to receive mandatory General Military Training (GMT) as well as training opportunities to assist in quality of life, and educational opportunities.

Topics such as sexual harassment, equal opportunity, suicide prevention, and motorcycle safety were among some of the mandatory GMT topics given over the two-day period. Other presenters, including Naval Criminal Investigation Service and the California Highway Patrol offered tips on staying safe and safe guarding government property.

Representatives from Navy Credentialing Opportunities Online showed how Navy COOL helps service members meet civilian certification and license requirements related to their ratings, designators, and collateral duties/out of rate assignments.

The two-day training was capped off with the command's annual banquet with a Mardi Gras theme.

Rapper/actor LL Cool J appeared via video and congratulated eight Sailors who advanced to first class petty officer.

"Seeing him [LL Cool J] on the screen was incredible," said Operations Specialist 1st Class Natana Denzmore. "And having him say my name is something I'll never forget."
