YOKOSUKA, Japan (NNS) -- Sailors aboard the aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73) welcomed the director and stars of the film "Battleship" aboard the ship, April 2.
Following a meet-and-greet opportunity at Fleet Activities Yokosuka's Benny Decker theater, director Peter Berg and actors Alexander Skarsgrd, Brooklyn Decker, Rihanna, Taylor Kitsch and Tadanobu Asano visited the ship to hold a news conference with more than 150 international journalists on the carrier's flight deck.
"We are so excited to bring this film to everyone around the world," said Decker. "We feel lucky and blessed to have you guys defending our freedoms, and we hope we shine a light on our heroes and the military around the world as we bring it to the big screen."
Released by Universal Pictures, Battleship is a sci-fic movie that pits the U.S. Navy against invading aliens who mysteriously surface out at sea. The film is scheduled to be released April 11.
"We've been lucky to have been able to film on many different navy ships: guided-missile cruisers and destroyers, on rigid-hulled inflatable boats and aircraft carriers," said Berg. "We continue to be blown away, humbled and awe-inspired by what the men and women of these ships are capable of doing."
Throughout their time on board the carrier, the actors toured the bridge, flight deck, flight deck control and hangar bay.
Sailors, armed with their cameras, were excited to get the opportunity to see these Hollywood A-listers up-close and in person.
"I was excited to see all of the actors and the director as well," said Aviation Boatswain's Mate (Equipment) 3rd Class Ronald Wise from Idaho Falls, Idaho. "I think it's great to have a movie shed some good light on the Navy."
George Washington is the Navy's only full-time forward-deployed aircraft carrier ensuring security and stability in the western Pacific Ocean. The ship is currently pier side in Yokosuka, Japan and making preparations to return to sea.
