NORFOLK, Va. (NNS) -- Navy Warfare Development Command (NWDC) is hosting a Pacific Rim Innovation Symposium Oct. 10-11, 2012, at the SPAWAR Systems Center in San Diego for junior leaders from E-5 to O-5.
The event is scheduled to begin both days at 12:00 p.m. PDT to accommodate participants in various times zones, and will be carried over Defense Connect Online (DCO) for attendees located outside the San Diego area.
The Symposium, "Engaging Junior Leaders to Address Pacific Rim Challenges," is designed to help junior leaders transform ideas into capabilities, overcome internal barriers to innovation, promote debate on employment of sea power in future conflicts and solicit ideas to address current Pacific Fleet challenges.
Adm. Cecil D. Haney, commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet, will keynote the event. Other speakers include innovation-focused leaders from Naval Air Forces, Office of Naval Research, NWDC, SPAWAR, Qualcomm and Skye Maritime, LLC. Each day will feature breakout groups working on current Pacific Fleet problems. Solutions suggested during these sessions will be brought forward to senior Navy leadership.
"The Pacific Rim poses challenges very different from those we have been facing over the last 10 years as we focused on supporting the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan," said Rear Adm. Terry B. Kraft, commander, NWDC. "Junior leaders at the operational and tactical levels will be critical to helping tackle these problems and we need to help them get their ideas heard and acted upon."
This is the third event of NWDC's "Innovation Series 2012," designed to reinvigorate a culture of innovation throughout the fleet.
Individuals who would like to attend the event can find registration, DCO and other information on NWDC's website at https://www.nwdc.navy.mil/ncoi/pris.
