GROTON, Conn. (NNS) -- The Southeastern Connecticut Submarine Force Birthday Ball Planning Committee is looking for talented singers to lend their voices to compete in the second annual Submarine Birthday Ball Sing-off.
The singers will compete in the second annual event scheduled for March 22 at the Dealey Center, which is located at Naval Submarine Base New London.
The singer who best performs the National Anthem during the auditions will repeat their performance at the 113th Southeastern Connecticut Submarine Force Birthday Ball April 13.
The planning committee chose to hold the singing competition again this year based on how well-received last year's event was.
"When the committee came together again this year to start the planning for the 113th Annual Submarine Birthday Ball, we decided that the sing-off should be included as both a unique and creative way to continue to honor those who are serving and served in the Submarine Force," said Chief Machinist's Mate (SS) Patrick Mclellan, Naval Submarine School instructor and lead coordinator for the annual Southeastern Connecticut-based ball.
The planning committee is bringing some star power to the judging panel this year. Sean Patrick McGraw, a country music singer and former Nashville Star semi-finalist will judge alongside civilian and military counterparts, to include Lt. Cmdr. Carl J. Gerhard, director, Navy Band Northeast.
The contest is open to all active duty military, Reservists, retirees, dependents, Navy civilians, and the general public from the age of 18 or older.
"Similar to last year, the singer with the best voice will sing the national anthem at this year's Submarine Force Birthday Ball in front of more than 2,000 attendees," said Mclellan.
In addition to lending their voice during the annual ball, the winner will receive a complimentary ticket for two to attend the ball, as well as a one-night stay at the hotel during the night of the event. The event will be held at the MGM Grand Hotel at Foxwoods Resort.
Those interested in lending their voice, must record a video singing any song, and then upload it to the Submarine Birthday Ball's Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/SubmarineBallSingOff. Or, interested singers can submit a video to the committee's e-mail address, firstname.lastname@example.org.
The deadline to submit videos for audition consideration by the committee, added Mclellan, is March 1.
The Southeastern Connecticut Submarine Force Birthday Ball Planning Committee is an all-volunteer, non-federal entity not endorsed by the Department of Defense.
