PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii (NNS) -- On February 19 during an open ocean training mission, a 34-year-old Sailor assigned to a Hawaii-based Naval Special Warfare unit became separated from his unit off Kaena Point.

The Coast Guard was immediately notified after an unsuccessful attempt by the unit to locate the missing Sailor. A joint search effort led by the Coast Guard continues today and includes the Navy and Honolulu Fire Dept.

The Navy is in the process of notifying the Sailor's family.
