RHODES, Greece (NNS) -- Cmdr. Zoah Scheneman relieved Cmdr. Adam Aycock as commanding officer of the guided-missile destroyer USS Mahan (DDG 72) during a shipboard ceremony, while in port Rhodes, May 7.
During the ceremony, Aycock, who took command of Mahan in November 2011, spoke about how proud he was of the crew and directed them to uphold the honor and prestige of being a Mahan Sailor.
"I am very proud of each and every one of you. All the great things this ship and crew have accomplished are because of all your hard work," said Aycock.
Scheneman spoke about his time as the executive officer of Mahan and the privilege of commanding the ship.
"After 26 years in the Navy, I can say with confidence that this is the finest crew I have ever served with," said Scheneman. "It is my honor and privilege to be your commanding officer."
Aycock's next assignment is command of Afloat Training Group, Mayport, Florida.
USS Mahan, homeported out of Norfolk, Va., is currently on a scheduled deployment in support of Maritime Security Operations and Theater Security Cooperation efforts in the U.S. 6th Fleet Area of Responsibility.
