WASHINGTON (NNS) -- Rear Adm. Timothy Giardina received non-judicial punishment (NJP) today from Commander, United States Fleet Forces, Adm. Bill Gortney after an investigation revealed violations of the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
During NJP, Gortney found Giardina guilty of two counts of Art. 133 of the UCMJ, conduct unbecoming an officer and gentleman. The first count involved Giardina lying to an investigator. The second related to circumstances surrounding Giardina's failure to turn in and subsequent use of gambling chips he claims to have found at a casino.
Gortney awarded Giardina a punitive letter of reprimand and $4,000 forfeitures in pay.
Giardina previously served as a Vice Admiral as the deputy commander, United States Strategic Command from December 2011 to October 2013. He was reassigned to the office of the Navy Staff while the investigation was ongoing and reverted to his previous rank of Rear Admiral.
