SECNAV Meets with Indian Chief of Naval Staff

NEWPORT, R.I. (NNS) -- Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus met with the Indian navy's Chief of Naval Staff Adm. Robin Dhowan Sept. 17 on the margins of the International Seapower Symposium.

Mabus provided remarks at the Symposium which focused on the relationship between maritime security, political stability and economic progress. Dhowan was one of the many international officials in attendance.

Mabus thanked Dhowan for the Indian navy's recent partnership achievements, specifically its participation with the U.S. Navy's RIMPAC 14 and in MALABAR, the trilateral exercise with Japan.

Mabus expressed particular appreciation for the Indian Navy's deployment of a frigate, the INS Sahyadri, and a light utility helicopter to RIMPAC 2014, marking India's first time participating in this exercise.
